A new workspace and some new work

Seeing as the small studio space we have downstairs is filled to the brim with my mothers junk, and my brother has left us for a year to live a luxurious travelling lifestyle, I took it upon myself to turn his bedroom into a new workspace, just for me. Its a decent sized space, and the only problem I have had to overcome so far is the lack of cutting surface, this was re arranged when I had the brilliant idea of covering his bed with a piece of wood (a temporary measure, but it works).

I even filled it with all my stuff from my FMP exhibition. It makes the room a bit more inspiring. The lack of a full time job gave me the opportunity to organise everything in the room as well. Fabrics are bagged and labelled for convenience; pens, pins and threads are displayed for easy access, even magazines have been carefully stacked in a suitcase, just so I know where everything is.

A long with this new work space comes new work. My project at the moment is for YEAH mag, and although I have not yet completed all of my designs, I decided it would be beneficial to start with the construction of something I am absolutely certain. My Coat.

The illustration is not 100% finished (I need to run it through Photoshop to adjust the colours) but you get the idea. Oh and just in case your wondering what's wrong with her legs?, the other garment in this look is lace leggings. Lace is hard to draw with a Sharpie. She hasn't got a rash.

So I started with a toile, I'm quite happy with it, although the bat wing sleeve needs some work. And I need to alter the sizing, which would be so much easier if I had a real adjustable dressmakers dummy. Pinning things to yourself is hard. If anyone knows of somewhere I could get one for cheap, or even better, for free, please put me in contact.

Other than that, there's not much to report. I'm working on a brand name at the moment. And hopefully, when I've settled on one, I'll get some labels made up. And care labels, and some ribbon, maybe some swing tags and bags, even leather embossed labels...

A dip into the past, and more forward thinking

So that was that. Im still working on my collection for Yeah magazine, i have decided on a title for the collection and although i have worked out 2 or 3 wikid designs, i need to research more into 1940's housewives. Shouldnt be too long until i have all the designs worked out and i can start pattern cutting and fabric buying. Post the illustrations once i have them all figured out.

Now that all the work is done...

I have finally finished my art foundation course. Its good to be free.
However, I feel as though continuing with the blog could be something quite fun.
It now does not relate to 'a week in the wardrobe of...'. It is now just an on-line diary of my work, a continuous evaluation if you will.
Anyone who went to see the exhibition at Alton College, thank you!

So, back to the future, I am about to start working on a collection to be featured in YEAH mag (http://www.yeah-magazine.com) The theme for the issue is Rebellion, sounds simple enough...

The contents of my wardrobe

I decided its only fair to post a glimps of my wardrobe. I've selected my favorite items from clothes to bags to shoes, pluss my muff (i mean my rabbit fur hand warmer)

This is one of my favortie garments, i can wear it day or night and the chiffon fabric allows makes it easy.

The Fur coat. A staple garment in many a female wardrobe.
This is mine, a little tatty but well loved and not real. However i feel next winter may see the entrance of a real fox fur in my wardrobe.

Leather Jacket?
so usefull and easy to wear, i have acquired 3, and every season i see another one that i would like to add to my collection.

The Oversized blazer, the good fitting jeans and the cocktail dress!

All three items co-ordinate well, and simple accesories can be used for all looks

A basic collection of accesories can be utilised with every garment

.

The accessories!

Black, comfy sky scrapers. Can be worn with almost anything. The bertter the make the more comfortable, so its worth spending that little bit extra on a good pair of high heels.

A Muff, white rabbit fur, great in winter but not very practical, looks amazing. I got this in Beyond Retro, Brick lane an absolute bargin at £12

The generic black bag, good size for day to day use, agian goes with anything.

The best way to publish different styles is to photograph a variety of different people! I photographed my class and being from an art course the style of each person is quite unique to them.
